GIRL, AGED TWO, MISSING
FRUITLESS SEARCH IN PETONE DISTRICT DISAPPEARANCE LAST FRIDAY From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON, November 7. After a search of the town and waterfront at Petone no trace was found of Elizabeth Ellen Shannon, aged two, wffo has been missing since 6 o’clock on Friday evening. In company with her three-year-old cousin, with whom she had been playing at her home at Fitzherbert street, Petone, she Was seen running towards the beach about 300 yards away. A search by her father about 15 minutes later was fruitless. The cousin, David Caldwell, was found about 6.30 p.m. in Jackson street, the main street and, in response to a request from t|ie police, about 30 shopkeepers opened and searched their premises on Saturday morning, but without result. The Petone police, with reinforcements from Wellington, members of the Returned Services’ Association. Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and many local residents have kept up a search of the district and the icyreshore from Petone to Eastbourne. Small craft, assisted by a spotting aircraft, have patrolled and dragged the harbour nearby. Elizabeth Shannon’s mother is still in hospital after having given birth to a baby boy last Wednesday. •
