Of the 85 head of fat cattle offered at yesterday’s sale, quite a number were of prime quality, and with a keen demand, values firmed fully 30s a head. The store cattle entry was larger than usual, and for the most part of good quality. Outside interests were holding the market very firm, and little change was noticeable in values for the two races of fat sheep offered. A keener demand was evident in the store sheep section, in which wether hoggets predominated, and over all a firming tendency was noticeable. Values were:— Fat Cattle.—Prime heavy steers, £26 2s 6d to £29 12s 6d; prime steers, £2O 2s 6d to £25 7s 6d; meduim steers, £l7 2s 6d to £lB 17s 6d; light steers- to £l6 10s; prime heifers, £lB 7s 6d to £23 2s 6d; light to medium heifers, £lO 7s 6d to £l5 7s 6d; prime cows, £l6 2s 6d to £lB 2s 6d; light to medium cows, £8 2s 6d to £l3 2s 6d. Store Cattle.—Calves, £6 18s to £8; yearling steers and heifers, £9 to £l2 17s 6d; two-year steers and heifers to £l5 10s;• empty cows and heifers, to £lO 2s 6d; bulls to £l2 10s; dairy cows and heifers to £l4 ss. Fat Sheep.—Prime heavy lambs, 46s 6d to 495; prime wethers, 47s 4d to 49s lOd; medium wethers, 37s to 44s Id; light wethers, 33s Id to 36s lOd; prime ewes, 28s Id to 32s 4d; light to medium ewes, 26s Id to 27s lOd. Store Sheep.—Best wether hoggets, 36s 6d to 395; medium wether hoggets, 31s to 34s 6d; medium ewes and lambs, 26s to 26s 9d. ASHBURTON There was a smaller yarding than usual at the stock sale held in the Ashburton saleyards yesterday. The quality over all, however, was good. Values were on a par with those ruling last week for fat ewes and wethers. Prices ranged as follows: Ewes: low condition, from 18s, medium 25s to 28s, prime up to 31s lOd. Wethers, small 30s to 34s 6d, medium 35s to 38s, prime up to 40& 7d. Hoggets: medium up to 445, prime 44s Id to 46s Id.
