PIGEON FLYING
■CANTERBURY CLUB The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club conducted two races from the North Island on Saturday. The first was from Feilding, 185 birds from 31 lofts being liberated at 7.32 a.m. into a northerly breeze. The winning bird was clocked at 1.27.29 p.m., thus covering the distance of 280 miles 1170 yards in the fast time of shr 55min 29sec.
Results were:—A. Rowe’s No. 483.(1389.67 yards a minute) 1; J. Luke’s No. 871 (1389.63). 2; E. French’s No. 881 (1379), 3; A. Bailey’s No. 222 (1378), 4; F. Hughes’s No. 705 (1376), 5.
The second race was held from Woodville and was the club's annual Derby for specially ringed produce birds. A. Rowe again secured a win, his bird. No. 51, covering the 285 miles 1179 yards in the fast time of 6hr 23min. A. Rowe holds the L. Jones Shield for one year for winning this event.
