AUSTRALIAN EXPLORER AND ADMINISTRATOR A stamp to commemorate the work of the late Lord Forrest of Bunbury, a famous Australian explow, »urveyor, and administrator, is to be issued on November 28 by the Auitralian Postal Administration. John Forrest was Born at Bunbury Western Australia, on August 22, IW, and was one of three brothers who became notable explorers. As a youns man, he, with his brothers, crossed from Perth to Adelaide. Another journey revealed good grazing land in the south-west, and, in 1874. he was leader of a party from Geraldton

which had as its main object the obtaining of information concerning the watershed of several rivers flowing toward the western and north-western - shores of Western Australia. The expedition was successful, and one i®mediate result was the settlement of the good country in the Murchison district. John Forrest was a member of the legislative and executive councils of

the colony of Australia, and who# responsible government was granted to Western Australia, he was the first premier. During the 10 years he was in office a progressive policy of settlement and development was pursued. When gold was discovered in Western Australia, he was largely responsible for supplying water to the gold field at Kalgoorlie. He was elected to the first Federal Parliament and held various portfolios during his period in Federal politics. Lord Forrest died on the way to England, without having taken his seat in the House of Lords.
