CANTERBURY CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING
During the centennial year the New Zealand championships and the inaugural British Empire championships would be held at Christchurch, and those events should lead to an increased interest in chess, said the president (Mr S. Hollander), at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Chess Club. The club had a successful year, the membership increasing to 92, but there was still need for further improvement, he said. In a discussion' on the British Empire tournament, members considered’ the event was of historic importance, and hoped the city would provide a hall worthy of the occasion, Officers elected were:—president, Mr Hollander; immediate past-president. Miss A. Wellard-King; vice-presidents, Messrs E. J. Denys and D. Manson; treasurer. Mr G. Parkins: secretary, Mr F. R. Best; tournament secretary, Mr W. E. Moore: librarian, Mr D. Manson; committee, all officers and Messrs D. J. White, H. A. McGillivray, and R. O’Callahan; auditor, Mr S. Hindin.
