BALL PASSES THROUGH WICKETS

UNUSUAL INCIDENT AT ELMWOOD PARK

It is a traditional grievance of bowlers to have beaten batsmen only to have the ball shave the stumps or have a catch dropped in slips, but such hard luck tales win mean little in future to A. Dickey, of the St. Albans team, in the president’s grade in Christchurch. In a match against Old Collegians, played at Elmwood Park on Saturday afternoon, Dickey completely beat the batsman, R. R. Livingstone, but the ball passed between the middle and oft stumps. The distance between the wickets was measured and it was found that the ball would have l-16th of an inch clearance. The stumps were parallel. A decision of “not out” was given by the umpire. Unperturbed by this incident the batsman went on to carry his bat at the close of the innings.
