CAULFIELD CUP TO-DAY

N. EASTWOOD RIDING LINCOLN

Lincoln, which will be ridden in the Caulfield Cup to-day by the Riccarton apprentice, N. Eastwood, is expected to make a forward showing under his weight of 6-10. “Since he was a fast-finishing second to St. Razzle in the mile and a quarter Quality Handicap at Moonee Valley. Lincoln has been in the spotlight,’’ writes .‘‘Ascot’’ in the Melbourne “Sporting Globe.”

“The form he has revealed since then has been fair, and this hged Manitoba gelding, carrying the colours of Lawrence, may be able to make amends for the failure of that great horse in the Caulfield Cup of 1944, in which he was narrowly beaten by Counsel.”

Lincoln has a poor record measured by the performances of the top-weights in this year's Caulfield Cup, but he seems to reserve his best efforts for important races and, as he ran fifth last year with 6-9, he may be able to do a shade better this year in a field that does not appear to be as strong.

Comic Court will be a hot favourite for the race. Comic Court is a trainer’s dream; he has done everything right in the stable; has gone at any pace on the track; and has stood up to the most solid preparation of any Cup candidate in recent years.
