THE LAKE TEKAPO HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER UNDERTAKING.—This general view of the hydro-electric power works at Lake Tekapo was taken last Wednesday. In the left foreground is the partly-built powerhouse, which, when completed, will be 173 feet long and 62 feet high. The foundations penetrate 60 feet into the ground. The outlet of the main concrete water tunnel is seen in the right foreground. The tunnel is 5170 feet long (nearly one mile) and leads from the lake. It will carry 4000 cusecs of water for the generator turbine, equivalent to 1,500,000 gallons a minute. In the background is the Public Works camp.
