WIDER RESEARCH IN EDUCATION

MINISTER PROMISES SUPPORT The Minister of Education (Mr T H. McCombs) has received favourably proposals by the New Zealand Educacational Institute that the New. Zealand Council for Educational Research should be given facilities for wider inquiries. Mr McCombs says he is prepared to recommend the Government to provide for such extensions. Teachers appreciate the value of research carried out so far. and they believe that the council is best fitted to advance the work. At the same time they consider that, where investigations would come within the regular observations of teachers, the institute could undertake some research itself. This supplementary proposal has interested the Minister, and he has promised the co-operation of the Education Department in any such projects undertaken.
