RIGHT TO CRITICISE UNION POLICY From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON. October 13. The Wellington branch of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union at a stop-work meeting to-day adopted a resolution expressing confidence in the representatives of the national union but retaining the right to criticise the policy of the union. The resolution read: “That we express our confidence in the elected representatives of the national union as such, that is the national officers, national executive members, and national councillors, but we retain the inalienable right to criticise policy within our rules and take part in the formation of policy, and we also express confidence in the ability of the rank and file to make well-merited decisions at the appropriate time.” The resolution, which was adopted by an almost unanimous vote of the 1200 members present, is regarded as an expression of “the middle of the road” policy of the Wellington branch and a pointer to its attitude at the biennial conference of the union, which will be held on November 9. At the conference delegates from the different branches of the union form the national council, and from their members elect the national executive .
