WOMAN AMBASSADOR TO DENMARK

NOMINATION BY PRESIDENT TRI MAN (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Oct. 12. President Truman to-day nominated the United States’ first woman ambassador. She is Mrs Eugenie Anderson, who will become American Ambassador to Denmark. Mrs Anderson is the Democratic Party's national committee-woman in Minnesota. She is 40 years old, and has a son and a daughter. Other women have served the United States as Ministers. 25 YEARS AS CONDUCTOR OF CHOIR MR XV. A. ATWILL IIONOI RED On the occasion of Mr William A. At will’s silver jubilee as conductor of the choir at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mr and Mrs Atwill were the guests of honour at an evening social arranged by members of the choir. This function was held at “Maryknoll” on Wednesday evening, and many members and friends of the choir were present. In appreciation of his long, faithful, and valued services during 25 years a presentation was made to Mr Atwill by the Rev. Father C. J. Outtrim. Mrs Atwill received a bouquet of flowers. Various speakers made reference to the good work of the conductor and the keen interest which he is taking in choral music, and he was wished continued success for the future. The evening’s entertainment included items by Kiesdames L. O'Brien and S. McAuley (vocal duets). Miss M. L. Barrett 'pianoforte solos), and Mesdames S. McAuley. H. Beddington. A. Deeming. Messrs W. A. Atwill. and M. Gregory (songs).
