ROXBURGH GORGE INSPECTED
VISITING U.S. POWER EXPERT EXAMINATION OF PUKAKI AND TEKAPO TO-DAY (New Zealand Press Association.) DUNEDIN, October 13. Dr. J. L. Savage, the American expert who is advising the New Zealand Government on power schemes, with senior engineers from the Ministry of Works and project engineers, inspected the Roxburgh Gorge site to-day. From a point high above the dam site Dr. Savage was able to see every detail of the work already done, and river and rock contours.
For almost an hour, Dr. Savage studied the layout of the gorge, asking questions, and checking against his maps. After a further conference at the water’s edge, Dr. Savage and his party motored back to the camp and along the opposite bank, where the diversion channel is being cut.
To-morrow Dr. Savage intends to inspect hydro-electric works at Pukaki and Tekapo. He will then return to Wellington to begin Ihe collation of his notes and observations into his report. It is possible that Dr. Savage may visit the South Island again before leaving New Zealand.
