STANDARD RULER
TWO TYPES FOR USE IN SCHOOLS
The common ruler is the latest subject of official specification by the Standards Institute. The Education Department, teachers’ organisations, and manufacturers have been consulted and standard specifications have now been issued for two approved types. The first is intended for use by classes up to Standard I. On the front, one edge is marked in quarter inches and the other in half inches. The back is marked in inches only. This type is already being manufactured according to the Standards Institute's specification. The second ruler is for use by upper standards and post-primary school classes. One front edge is marked in centimetres and millimetres and the other in eighths and sixteenths of ar. inch (six inches of each). On the back one edge ir marked in tenths of an inch and the other in twelfths and quarters of an inch (six inches of each).
