RECEPTION AT BISHOPSCOURT

The Primate of New Zealand (Archbishop West-Watson) and Miss West- , Watson held a garden reception at Bishopscourt yesterday morning, when they entertained members of Synod, now in session in Christchurch, and their wives, the hosts and hostesses of visiting members, and members of various diocesan committees and church organisations. The weather was perfect, and the guests greatly enjoyed the beauty of the lawns, flower gardens, and fine trees. Miss West-Watson wore a frock of soft green crepe made with a high neckline and knife-pleated skirt, and her hat of black straw was trimmed with a bunch of green flowers and leaves to match her dress. Mrs Stephen Lester, the Archbishop’s daughter, wore a grey suit and cornflower blue blouse and hat.

Among those present were Mother Margaret, of the Sisters of the Cross, Melanesia, the Bishop of Chichester (the Rt. Rev. G. K. A. Bell) and Mrs Bell, and Sir Robert Chance. Lady Chance, and Miss Mary Chance (Carlisle). Among visitors greeted by many friends were the Dean of Nelson (lhe Rev. P. B. Haggitt, formerly of St. Mary’s, Merivale) and Mrs Haggitt. Tea was served out of doors bv a band of volunteers directed by Mrs M. M. Smith, who had the help of girls from Te Wai Pounamu and St. Margaret’s College.
