MODERATOR ELECT OF GENERAL ASSEMBLY
REV. J. BAIRD NOMINATED The minister of the Cashmere Hills Presbyterian Church since 1942. the Rev. James Baird, was yesterday nominated by the Christchurch Presbytery as moderator-elect of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand. The modera-tor-elect will be chosen by the General Assembly at Timaru on November 8. Mr Baird came to New Zealand from Northern Ireland as a licentiate of the Church in 1920. After spending a year in the King Country doing pioneer work, he was called to the charge of the Kent Terrace Presbyterian Church. Wellington, where he was minister from 1921 to 1933. He then wont to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Highfield, Timaru. Last year. Mr Baird represented the Church in New Zealand at the quinquennial council of the Presbyterian Alliance in Geneva. He was also the church representative at the first assembly of the National Council of Churches at Amsterdam, and was elected to the central committee, the only New Zealander who was given this honour. Mr Baird was also elected Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery for the ensuing year. He will take office in December.
