(retired), disappeared™ from his home at Takapuna, and he : has not been seen or heard of since.™ A thorough search by police and™ civilians over a wide area in the Glenfield district has been unsuccessful.™ and organised searching has beenH abandoned. H At 9 a.m. on the morning of September 5. Rear-Admiral Briggs left or.. , his usual Monday morning drive to ag| Glenfield farm to obtain eggs. It was™ also his custom on these occasions toB leave his car and take a walk. His! car, with the ignition key missing andM the doors locked, was found at the! side of the road at the intersection of g the Albany-Birkenhead main highway- | with Sunset road and Glendhu r<>ad.| B about three-quarters of a mile from thejS farmhouse which he had set out to! visit. Rear-Admiral Briggs was last! seen by a woman living in a house! opposite where his car was found. She ‘ saw him alight from his car and lock B the doors at 10.30. He did not visit the IS farmhouse, and he also failed to keep B a doctor’s appointment he had made ■; for the same morning. Aged 72. Rear-Admiral Briggs had B been in New Zealand for about Iwo B years. He was formerly an honorary! A.D.C. to the King. He was a mem-! ber of the Northern Club.
