RACIALISM
Sir, —The statement by one correspondent that capitalists and landowners are mainly responsible for the hard of South African natives is inaccurate. Natives there in the most unhappy position reside in cities and are subject to the dictates of the white proletariat. Likewise, in the United States, negroes employed in big industry or as domestic servants by wealthy folk, are well treated, but those in the power of the poor whites in southern states have no human rights. Such behaviour is contrary to the current popular superstition that a proletariat can do no wrong.Yours, etc., H. J. BUTTLE. Darfield, September 29, 1949.
