It was the practice in New Zealand to sell special stamps as a means of raising funds for the health camps of the country. In Sweden the same idea was used but matches, which were almost the emblem of Sweden, took the place of the stamp, said Miss H. Iris Croc’.e, director-general of the Voluntary Aid Detachment, in an address to the Southland Red Cross Society. They were sold in attractively decorated feoxes at slightly higher prices than the ordinary boxes and the extra money obtained was used for the health camps throughout the country She explained that the Swedish camps were not organised for the children of Sweden, but for those o 4 neighbouring countries who were more in need of good care and nourishing food as the result of vears of hardship during World War 11. Mis? Crooke will retire next March the position of director-general, which she has held for the last eight years.
