KIDNAPPING IN MELBOURNE
NO RANSOM DEMANDED (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Oct. 2. A transaction connected with the | shipment of munitions from New j Guinea to the Stern Gang in Palestine ( iis believed to have been the major. factor behind the kidnapping last week of Mr Solomon Ravdell. Investigators believe that Mr Ravdell had connexions with men who were involved in more than one such deal in arms intended for the Jewish terrorists and that one deal led to a dispute about £15.000 worth of war equipment. The dispute continued and | involved threatening letters, shots in | the dark, and sabotage. So far there has been no ransom note or clue to Ravdell’s whereabouts. This is the first kidnapping case in Victorian history, and the law provides no specific penalty for it. though the perpetrators could be charged with demanding money by menaces.
