According to the Rome correspondent of the United Press, it was ann o o £ n^J o ” da y ,hat Italv ha d bought £39.286,0() 0 worth of gold from the United States to bolster its gold reserves. Financial circles believe that the added reserves will be sufficient to protect the lira against any eventual international monetary changes Government officials said that the new gold, which would double the present Treasury reserves, would make Pu slble to guarantee 50 per cent, of the currency in circulation in Italy.
