PROGRESS LEAGUES DISCUSSION General approval of the Sheep Industry Commission's recommend j‘: s was expressed by the executive < f the Canterbury Progress League last evening. It adopted a report from its agricultural committee which excited from the approval references to soli conservation generally, and expressed disagreement with* the rcc mendations on agricultural res : .’'i. It added that it hoped that the v r:ous bodies now carrying out r. search would be given every encouragement to continue. “I think the league might well endorse support for the catchment boards.” said Mr C. H. Clibborn “This league actually drafted the first outline for legislation which brought the catchment boards into being.” Mr H. C. B. Withell, referring to a suggestion that a deputation from the executive should visit the Ashburton County Council, which has withdrawn its contribution to the league, said: ‘‘lf you are going down to Ashburton I just issue a warning. Don't say you are supporting catchment boards. You might have had a different, experience here, but we are not at all keen on the way the work is being done in our area. We have the maximum rate to pay.”
