AVONSIDE SCHOOL EXTENSIONS
CONTRACT FOR £ll,OOO
WING AT GATEWAY END
An extension of the Avonside Girls' High School building, at the gateway end. costing £ll.OOO. has been approved by the Education Department. The successful tenderer was C. S. Luney, Limited. This announcement was made at the meeting of the Board of Managers last evening. The new wing will be of two storeys, conforming to the present style of the school. Two big classrooms and a laboratory will be among the main features.
Work is expected to start in about a month, and be completed in time for occupation by the beginning of the second term next year.
Plans for the job were prepared while the school was under the control of the Canterbury University College Council; but modifications stipulated to save scarce building materials necessitated the calling of new tenders among those who sought the job originally.
