ROUGH FOOTBALL AT BLENHEIM
COMBINED TEAM AND AUSTRALIANS “ COOLING-OFF ” INTERVAL CALLED BY REFEREE (New Zealand Press Association,) BLENHEIM, September 7. The game between the touring Australian Rugby team and a combined Marlborough-Nelson-Golden B£y team to-day was interrupted by the referee because the play had become to'j rough. In spite of shouts from spectators. which blamed the Australians, the referee did not put ahyone off the field.
The hot exchanges came early in the second spell. ■ There was a noisy demonstration by many spectators, who urged the referee to take drastie action.
The referee kept a firm grip of the game. He stopped play for a short period to let tempers cool down and then ordered that it be continued. There was no repetition of the rough play.
The score at half-time was 3-all. The final score was: Australia 14, Combined 8.
