MAJESTIC CORNER TRAFFIC

4 CHIEF INSPECTOR REPLIES TO CORRESPONDENT

“I find two different directions given by the men on point duty at the Majestic corner. Some officers signal the drivers round in front of them, thus making an easier and quicker turn,” says a correspondent, “C.E.H.,” in a letter to the editor of “The Press.”

“Having made the short turn for one week, and then having repeated it with a different officer on duty, and in the same circumstances, one is liable to be reprimanded,” the correspondent adds.

The chief traffic inspector (Mr G. P. Kellar), replying to the correspondent, says: “The inspectors on point duty at that corner have been instructed to turn a car in front of traffic when turning from Manchester street north to Lichfield street west, or from Manchester street south to Lichfield street east when it is at all possible to expedite traffic by doing this. The inspectors have also been instructed to turn in front of them heavy vehicles which would have difficulty in executing the sharp turn. Signals to this effect are clearly given and road users generally should comply with them.”
