CANTERBURY UNION MEETS
LINWOOD PROTEST ALLOWED On the motion of Mr J. N. Clarke, the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening approved a recommendation from the Junior Advisory Board that a protest by the Lin- | wood Club over the final of the under 18 ; grade in the seven-a-side tournament on ; August 27 be sustained. It was reported that Linwood had been beaten in the final, but that two players ' in the Albion team, which won the final, j were members of the Merivale Club. It j was agreed to recommend that in future , matches provision be made for replacements. Mr A. K. Johnston was appointed man- ! ager of the Canterbury team to play i South Canterbury at Timaru to-day, Mr' W. S. Mikkelson, manager of the team to play Marlborough at Lancaster Park on Saturday, and Mr C. H. McPhail was appointed manager of the senior reserve team to play Wellington, at Wellington, next Saturday. P. B. Vincent was appointed captain and G. Bond vice-captain of the Canterbury team to play South Canterbury. A decision to compare the figures with other tests being carried out was made, after a report had been read on tests made with two types of New Zealandmade balls during the last 12 Saturdays. It was reported that one of the balls had become too fat. Its original end circumference was 30% in and it had lengthened to 32in. The side circumference, originally was 24jin and was now 26Ain. The length had decreased from ll%in to The other ball had become too long and thin.
