LUNCH-HOUR TRAMS
Sir, —I have been a user of the No. 16 (St. Albans) tram for many years. Up till recently I caught a tram home to lunch (Canon street) at 1.5 p.m. from Lichfield street. I arrived home at 1.15 p.m. and caught a return tram about 1.48 p.m., landing me at Lichfield street just before 2 p.m. With many others I found the service very convenient. Now a tram leaves the top terminus at 1.33 p.m. (too early), and the next goes only to the Square. Another leaves just after, but is too late, as it reaches Lichfield street after 2 p.m. After all the talk of reducing fares and popularising the trams I have to lunch in town. The No. 16 timetable has been cut down and otherwise spoiled.—Yours, etc., c 4 u RATEPAYER. September 6. 1949.
