COMPETITIONS FESTIVAL

RESULTS AT TIMARU From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, August 22. Competitors from Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Wellington, and one from Masterton, together with an exceptionally large number from South Canterbury, took part in the nineteenth annual South Canterbury competitions festival which opened at Timaru on Saturday. The festival was officially opened by the Mayor of Timaru (Mr A. E. S. Hanan) thus evening. The judges were introduced by the president (Mr E. R. Tate). The competitions will continue to-day and until August 27. The judges are:—National dancing, Mrs Dorren Casey, Dunedin; fancy dancing, Miss Lily Stevens, Dunedin; elocution, Mrs D. H. Lyne, Timaru; instrumental and vocal, Mr L. Barnes, Christchurch; pipe music, Mr J. Paterson, Christchurch and Mr J. Little, Timaru; Highland dress, Mrs Casey. GREYMOUTH RESULTS From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, August 22. The Greymouth Competitions Society (Inc.) began its thirtyfilth annual festival to-day. A large number of entries have been received in both the singing and national dancing classes, and competitors from Nelson, Canterbury, Dunedin. Timaru, and other parts of the West Coast have entered. The festival, which will continue until Thursday, was officially opened by the Mayor (Mr F. Boustridge). The judges are: vocal and instrumental, Mr Clifton Cook, of Christchurch; elocution, Miss Beryl Baggs, of Christchurch; fancy dancing' Miss Muriel Swann, of Wanganui; and national dancing, Miss Mavis Perfect, of Christchurch. The official accompanists are Mrs Mary Best and Mrs Mary Buchanan. Th-e official piper for the national dancing is Mr W. Maxwell, of Nelson.
