OBITUARY

MISS H. HULL The death occurred in Napier on Monday afternoon of Miss H. Hull, formerly a well-known resident of Christchurch, where she was greatly esteemed and loved. A trained kindergarten teacher, Mjss Hull arrived in Christchurch from England with her brother and sister in 1912. At that time the Mayoress (Mrs T. E. Taylor) had called a meeting to consider the founding of a creche and kindergarten in Christchurch. Miss Hull was later appointed the first kindergarten principal in Christchurch. She proved in every way that she was a capable teacher with high ideals. With the wide knowledge she had gained in England, she was well equipped to meet the trials which beset her when she started the kindergarten work in Christchurch. Her understanding and sympathetic manner with young children was remarkable, and she had much influence for the good on the girls who were fortunate enough to train under her.

After 25 years of loyal service to the Kindergarten Association Miss Hull was forced to retire because of illhealth and failing eyesight. Much of the success of kindergarten work in Christchurch to-day is due to the untiring efforts of Miss Hull. For her keen sense of humour, her unobtrusive kindness, and the help and guidance she gave to those in need, Miss Hull will be long remembered by all who knew her.
