GRAND NATIONAL MEETING
RACING
FIELDS FOR SECOND DAY ACCEPTORS FOR HURDLES Sixteen horses remained in the Grand National Hurdles when acceptances for the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Riccarton next Saturday were taken last evening. The field will be led out by Hunting Mac (10-9), which will be making his third attempt to win the race, Hunting Mac is in good order for the race, as he showed on the first day of the meeting by decisively winning the Jumpers’ Flat. Desert Trek (10-7) will also be making his third attempt to win the race. The Nightmarch gelding was favourite for the race in 1947 and finished fourth to Boola mskee, Duality, and Ernada. He returned to form at Wingatui in June when he won the Otago Hurdles, but failed in his two races at the Wellington winter meeting last month. North Island stables are well represented in the race with nine acceptors— Hunting Mac, Our Gold, Golden Reign, Dawn March, Jon Rosa, Zulu Boy, Roman Duke, Aristea, and Homespun. The fields are:—
