FORESTS PRODUCTS' HOLDINGS
NEGOTIATIONS BY STATE, DENIED (New Zealand Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 9. 1 Was there any truth in a story published in Sydney newspapers that the New Zealand Government was negotiating for the purchase of Forest Product!’, holdings, at the reported price of about 5s a tree? asked Mr F. W. Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga), during a debate oft the Forests Bill in the House of Representatives to-day. The Commissioner of Forests (Mr C. F. Skinner) should say whether the report was correct. Replying to the debate. Mr Skinner said it had been brought to his notice some time ago by a letter from Australia that a newspaper report indicated that the State was negotiating for Forest Products’ holdings. "I know nothing about it at all," said Mr Skinner. “The story is too fantastic for words. The sale of Forest Products’ forest areas to the State has never been contemplated. It is just a move on tft part of someone to try and get a rise in’ the share price. It is a shark hunt on the part of someone who wants to unload a oarcel of shares." Mr W. J. Bowden (Opposition, Karori): It’s a bull movement.
