NORTH AVON ROAD BRIDGE
THREE-SPAX* STitUCTI RE APPROVED The Building Controller has issued a permit for the construction of the North Avon road bridge. Plans are nearly complete. The proposed bridge is of three spans—a middle one of 30 feet, with two end ones each 24 feet. This will give a total length of 78 feet and a width of 42 feet, including a carriageway of 30 feet and two footways each six feet wide. Probing of the site has been done with an iron bar, and this shows uneven formation. Generally there is a shingle base overlaid by an uneven thickness of soft clay. “To save possible trouble with the contract, a pile should be driven at each corner of the bridge to ascertain the lengths required,” said the works committee report to the City Council last evening. The design was anproved and driving of test piles authorised.
