REWI ALLEY’S THANKS

HELP FOR SANDAN SCHOOL | In a recent news letter of the Sandan Indusco Bailie School, re- ! ceived by his brother in Christchurch, Rewi Alley pays a tribute to the Ne w Zealand public for the assistance i given in support of his work during the last year. “We have now had the benefit of regular CORSO funds for over a year, and what this has meari to us is not easy to say in a letter alone. To understand fully the significance cf this expression of the gener-' csity of the New Zealand people, it would be necessary to pay a visit to Shantan and see for oneself just how much has been made possible by th’s grant. This last year has not been financially an easy one—other regular funds have failed —and without the CORSO monthly grant we would surely have been unable to carry on. “We are also grateful to those seemingly small, but nevertheless unquestionably valuable gifts of seeds, agricultural journals, and sundry articles of stationery- with which the* mail oag has recently teen weighted. The cases of clothing sent by CORSO have not yet all arrived—some are still on the road from Chungking—but we are expecting them here within the next week or so. This clothing will also meet a pressing need. Spring has come and we need clothing, which is not as heavy as the cotton padded clothes of the winter, and yet is suited to this weather, when, m the mornings and when there is no ran there is still a sharp nip in the air. We hope that these few words.” he adds, “will show that we are not ungrateful or unaware of the extent of cur debt.”

The amount of financial or other assistance that can be given oy CORSO must depend on the response given by the people of New Zealand in support of this work. This will be of particular concern to the people of Canterbury, and to-morrow the Christchurch public wili be able to contribute to the Shantan Bailie Training School as one of the important projects of CORSO. Collectors are still needed to ensure a successful appeal and volunteers may apply to Mr C. V. Rawley, 53 Cathedral square, cr call whenever they can afford time for collecting on the day of the appeal at the headquarters. Mavfair. Worcester street •
