HONOURS WON BY WOMEN
VICEREGAL INVESTITURE Four women were among those invested with decorations and awards by the Governor-General. Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., at Government House, Auckland, on Friday. Three women received the M.8.E., among them being Miss Helen Chapman, of Remuera, who for the last 18 years has been at the Auckland headquarters of the Plunket Society.
Sister Jessie Alexander, of Herne Bay. received her award for valuable services as a missionary iri the Urewera and for her welfare work for Maori boys and girls. The M.B.E. was also awarded to Miss Titiata Pabra Kawharu. of Dargaville. for her work as a district nurse in North Auckland and Rarotonga. The B.E.M. (military division) was received by Corporal Elizabeth Robinson. Hobsonville, for her long and meritorious service in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force.
