TWO ROUNDS OF 64 OPEN TOURNAMENT AT RAWHITI Playing faultless golf, D. L. Woon, New Zealand representative, and winner of the ““recent Victory tournament in Auckland, established a new course record of 64 for the Rawhiti links during the Rawhiti Club’s annual open tournament yesterday. Woon’s score, four strokes better than the scratch for the course, was also four strokes better than the previous record which was held by several players. To round off this performance, Woon repeated his morning round with another 64 in the four-ball bogey handicap in the afternoon. In each case Woon reached the turn in 32, five strokes better than scratch and returned in 32, one stroke more than scratch. At no stage did he appear to be struggling for his figures, and he was aided considerably with exceptional length from the tees. His morning round will be the one recognised as a record, as it was done in a stroke round, and although he holed out at every hole in the afternoon, his second round of 64 eannot be officially recognised as it was not done in a stroke round? He had an opportunity of finishing his second round in 63, but he failed to hole a five-foot putt on the last green. The runner-up in the scratch event was C. W. Caldwell, who returned a card of 70. Excellent entries were received, and many intending competitors were turned dawn. The course was in fine order, with* the greens playing accurately. Woon’s morning round read as follows, with the scratch figures in parenthesis:—out: 4 (4), 3 (4), 5 (5), 3 (4), 3 (4), 3 ( 4), 4 (4), 4 ( 4), 3 ( 4)—32 ( 37). In: 5 (4). 4 (4), 3 (3), 3 (4), 4 (4), 3 (3), 4 (4), 3 (3), 3 (3)—32 (31). Total 64 ( 68). The following were the results:— Best gross score, senior: D. L. Woon 64, C. W. Caldwell 70. J. R. Davis 71. Junior.—W. J. Bartley 80, T. O. Johnson 81, J. W. Simon 82. Stroke Handicaps.—senior: N. P. Ball, 73, 11—62; T. Milesi, 73, 9—64; A. Thompson, 76, 12—64. Junior: W. J. Bartley, 80, 20—60; R. R. Roberts, 84, 21—63; R. Stafford, 81, 17—64. Four-ball Bogey Handicap.—A. Coy and I. Pockson, 9 up; N. Orr and R. C. Mathews, 8 up; R. Pitcaithly and W. Stevens, 8 up. The teams match was won by H. Rendall. H. M. Mins on, H. M. Brown, and R. R. Roberts, with a total of 268.
