AUSTRALIAN BASIC WAGE

INCREASE OPPOSED BY VICTORIA ’ IiIELBOURNE, May 5. The Victorian State Government will oppose union applications for an interim basic wage increase. Announcing this, the State Attorney-General (Mr T. D. Oldham) said that the Government did not sympathise with the Australasian Council of Trade Unions when it asked for an interim increase pending a decision on its claim before the Arbitration Court for a basic wage of £lO a week.
