The Minister of Works (Mr R. Semple) returned to Christchurch on Wednesday evening from the WestCoast. To-day he will pay official visits to several State housing areas in Christchurch and then spend • few days privately in the city, returning to Wellington about the middle of next week. On Sunday evening he will show a coloured film, "Here is New Zealand.” at the Southbridge Hall, and afterwards will give a brim address on “Democracy at the Crossroads.” Because of the absence of Sir Patrick Duff, the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, who will be fulfilling engagements in the South Island, Mr Stephen Miles, assistantsecretary at the Office of the Hign Commissioner, will bp present at inc airport in Auckland to meet the Prim® Minister (Mr Fraser) on his return next Sunday.—(P.A.)
