COST OF OVERSEAS TOURS

EXPENSES MET BY HOSTS (New Zealand Press Association.) r WELLINGTON. May 5. Apart from visits to Fiji, the cost of the interchange of Rugby teams between New Zealand, South Africa, Great Britain, and Australia is the responsibility of the host union. The chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union Council (Mr A. St. C. Belcher) said this at to-day's annual meeting when replying to a question by Mr T. H. Pfearce (Wanganui), who cited the loss of £1877 14s lOd on the Maori team’s visit to Fiji last year. Mr Belcher said the tour of Fiji was different from an ordinary interchange of overseas tours because the Fijian Union had been established only a short time, and had no funds. In this instance the New Zealand Union bore the cost of the travel, but the council was confident thaj when the Fijians returned the visit shortly the loss would be recouped.
