HEREFORD STREET BRIDGE

Sir, —Not so many years ago the City Council, at the cost of many thousands, reconstructed the Hereford street bridge to the full width of the road. Now for the last few weeks the traffic department has allowed cars to park on either side of this bridge—or perhaps the ever-growing numbers of traffic inspectors have not had time to ‘ get round to this area With the Bridge of Remembrance now closed to city-bound traffic and Hereford street bridge a parking area, I confidently expect the council, under instruction from the traffic department, shortly to start widening Worcester street bridge.—Yours, etc.. M.B.W. May 4, 1949. [The chief traffic inspector (Mr G. P. Kellar) says: ‘The numbers of inspectors has not grown since before the war. The matter is receiving attention.”]
