MOUNT PLEASANT WATER SUPPLY
MEETING OF RESIDENTS A scheme for a water supply for the Mount Pleasant Riding was discussed last evening at a meeting if residents. The scheme is to put in a 4in main rising to a 60,000-gallon reservoir. It provides for a 4 : n main from the present stone reservoir in Bellevue terrace, along Mount Pleasant road and Tahinau street at an estimated cost of £6300. The meeting was attended by members of the Heathcote County Coun 7 cil. the <county clerk and the county inspector, who outlined the scheme and discussed the financial obligations involved. “Due to. the abnormally dry summer over the last two years the growers have had great difficulties in watering their crops, and it is the intention of the Heathcote County Council to provide for growers and domestic consumers.’’ said the county clerk (Mr A. E. Amyes). The scheme was subject to the Local Government Loans Board for the raising of a loan, said Mr Amyes, and it would be necessary to take a poll of ratepayers before the loan was raised. It was . resolved that the meeting agree to the scheme providing suitable arrangements could be made with the Christchurch City Council for the purchase of water. Another meeting will be held when more details are available.
