Lieutenant-Colonel F. W. Voelcker, retiring High Commissioner for Western Samoa, has been appointed one of the two New Zealand representatives on the South Pacific Commission, states an Apia report. Mr W. G. Aldridge, principal of the Dunedin Technical College, will retire at the end of the second term. For 10 years Mr Aldridge was science master at the Christchurch Technical College. Mr W. L. Jolly. M.A., of the staff of the South Otago High School, Balclutha. was appointed headmaster of lhe Ashburton High School from 30 applications, at a special meeting of the high school board last evening. Mr Jolly hrs been on the staff of the South Otago High School for 20 years and is president of the South Otago Cricket Association and has been a member of the South Otago Rugby Union committee. He will take up his new duties about the end of May. The vacancy wes caused by the retirement of Mr E. A. Cockroft on Monday. Mr H. R. Chalmers, president of the New Zealand Racing Conference and president of the Wellington Racing Club, will leave Wellington to-morrow on a trip to England. He will return to Nev/ Zealand in late September or early October. Mr H. H. Green, vicepresident. will be his deputy while Mr Chalmers is absent from New Zealand. Colonel G. L. Agar, of Auckland, territorial commander. Divisional Signals Regiment, arrived in Christchurch yesterday by air to interview territorial officers concerning their appointment to that regiment. He will leave to-day for Dunedin to interview territorial officers there and will return to Auckland to-morrow. He is accompanied by Major R. W. Foubister. G.S.O. II (signals), Army Headquarters, Wellington. The senior surgeon in the ear, nose, and throat department of the Auckland Hospital. Mr W. A. Blomfield. has resigned because of his protracted illness. He has been a surgeon in the department for 20 years.— (P.S.S.) Major Allan G. Montgomery, a Salvation Army officer known throughout New Zealand, has retired. Ha was latterly public relations officer for the Auckland city and province. He has been succeeded by Brigadier Wilfred Searle, formerly of Christchurch.— (P.A.) Mr L. G. Oxby, of Sydney, secretary of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, accompanied by Mr F. E. Stahl, of Wellington, a member of the New Zealand branch executive is visiting Christchurch.
