Sir, —I agree with “Shocked Voter” regarding the poverty and unhappiness caused by the open bars during the 10 o’clock closing days. I look back on my own childhood, when I dreaded night.time, and went to bed prepared to spring up in the middle of the night to walk the streets or hide out in sheds or stables until we were certain a drunken man had exhausted himself after his drunken rows, and gone to sleep. These far from pleasant memories make me long to protest against renewing any such danger for children of to-day. who. while they may not experience the same poverty, still will be the greatest sufferers.—Yours, etc., 1907-1949.
