TARANAKI’S POSITION IMPROVES (P.A.) WELLINCTON, February 27. After establishing » lead of 45 runs on the first innings, Hutt Valley fared only moderately in the second innings of the Hawke Cup cricket match against Taranaki, and at stumps had a lead of 161 runs with four wickets in hand. Scores: Hutt Valley 293 and 116 for six wickets (Kemp 30 not out, Capstick 30. Nightingale 18. K. C. James 12 not out; R. G. James three for 14, Autridge two tor 27). Taranaki 248 (Miller 46, Hurcombe 29. Scott 27, Alexander 25, Autridge 25 not out, Gray 23: Nightingale three for 52, Rudman three tor 58 3 Robertson two tor 28).
