KAIKOURA CLUB

TROTTING

TODAY’S PROSPECTS

Our Flicka, a half-sister to winners in Imperial Grattan and Ben Ledi. gave a ' good display at her last start for P. P. I Gallagher, who trains her at Washdyke, ' to finish second to Sporty Boy in the | Vincent Trotting Stakes at the Vincent . Jockey Club’s meeting on January 14. A neat Fremont filly, Our Flicka may leave the maiden classes with a win in the First Hapuku Handicap at the Kaikoura Trotting Club's meeting at Rangicra today. Most opposition to Our Flicka may come from recent place-getters in King Pepper. Jackie Pointer, and Chatto Boy. A four-year-old gelding, Chatto Boy. which won the second division of the Borough Handicap Trot at the Greymouth Jockey Club’s meeting on January 1, is by Red Shadow from Central Lass, which won at the pacing gait. By the imported Frank Worthy, Central Lass is out of a smart performer in Kid Logan, which took a record of 2min 8 2-ssec several years ago. A likely improver, Chatto Boy must be respected from the 24 yards mark in the First Hapuku Handicap. Uranium, a winner over two miles in 4min 26sec in the Woburn Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting on November 20, has come into favour for the Kaikoura Handicap, the main twomile race for pacers. A five-year-old daughter of Grattan Loyal and Satin Queen, Uranium is above average. She should still be going strong when most of the field have had enough in the Kaikoura Handicap. Of the others. Black Diamond. Aqua Lady, Waroonga. and Grand Fleet appear to have the best prospects. As most of the horses have two engagements. form shown in the first four races should prove a reliable guide to the laftt half of the programme. Horses in form include:— First Hapuku Handicap: Our Flicka. King Pepper, Jackie Pointer. Second Hapuku Handicap: Lcdy Goodwood, Glamis Castle, Key Spring. Stewards’ Handicap: Captain Hardy, Concord, Pat Review. Kaikoura Handicap: Black DiamondAqua Lady bracket, Tekau-Waroonga bracket. Uranium. Kekerangu Handicap: Fanciful, Woolaway, Ipso Facto.
