DANGEROUS EXPERIMENT CONTEMPLATED On March ninth voters are asked to vote for or against the following proposal: “That provision be made for off-course betting on Horse Races, through the Totalisator, by means to be provided by the New Zealand Racing Conference and the New Zealand Trotting Conference.” The recommendations of these two bodies provides for Totalisator offices or agencies to be placed throughout the country. Surely it is completely obvious that these offices or agencies—call them what you like—are nothing more than Betting Shops. To every thinking person it w’ll be apparent that the introduction of these Betting Shops will increase the volume of gambling. Similar schemes have been tried in other countries and the results have been anything but satisfactory. Gambling increased —and social and economic problems multiplied. Don’t let this experiment take place here—keep betting on Horse Racing where it belongs—on the Racecourse. You have a clear-cut responsibility on March 9th. Go to the Poll and vote AGAINST the Betting Shops. STRIKE OUT THE TOP LINE. Advt.
