N.Z. CRICKET TEAM
“BEST TO VISIT ENGLAND” SIR ARTHUR DONNELLY’S COMMENTS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, February 25. “This is the fourth New Zealand cricket team that has gone to England and I would say without hesitation that it is undoubtedly the best,” said Sir Arthur Donnelly, president of the New Zealand Cricket Council, at a reception in Parliament Buildings today to members of the team. “Its batting is stronger than the batting of any other New Zealand team I can remember,” he added. “The bowling is more speculative, but I still think it a good deal stronger than many people believe. If the team can hold 70 per cent, of its catches, particularly in the slips, it will win 90 per cent, of its matches, without doubt.” The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) said he knew the team would be a credit to the country, and enhance New Zealand’s already high reputation. The captain of the team (W. A. Hadlee). the manager (Mr J. H. Phillipps) and the United Kingdom High Commissioner (Sir Patrick Duff) also spoke After the ceremony in Parliament Buildings the cricketers were received at Government House by the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg) and later were entertained at the Hotel Waterloo by Sir Arthur Donnelly.
