MR SEMPLE COMMENTS ON DISPUTE
“MINOR MATTER, ADJUSTED
SATISFACTORILY ” (P.A.) WELLINGTON. February 24. The Minister or Works (Mr R. Semple), commenting to-day on. the recent Tekapo strike, said it was actually over a minor matter concerned with the interpretation of the New Zealand Wojkers’ Agreement by the acting-engineer-in-charge of the job, a capable officer who, however, was comparatively unfamiliar with departmental procedure. . The engineer-in-charge (Mr R Deans Ritchie) had been recalled from leave, and as the result of dis- 1 cussions between senior officers of the department and the men matters had been adjusted satisfactorily and work resumed.
