The Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland) arrived at Auckland last night for a short visit, which will be mainly taken up with a caucus of Auckland members of the National Party.—(P.A.) Dr. Hub’ert Smith, District Medical Officer of Health for Wellington, has been appointed director of the Hokianga medical service and medical superintendent of the Hokianga Hospital. He will leave Wellington next month. He has been stationed in Wellington since 1941.—-tP.A.) Mr K. N. Buttle, of Auckland, was re-elected president of the Stock Exchange Association of New Zealand At the annual conference in Wellington, and Mr W. .S. Dawson, of Dunedin, was re-elected vice-president. The new executive consists of Messrs P. W. Blundell (Wellington), A. J. Scott (Christchurch), and the president and vice-president.—(P.A.) Mr R. D. Brown, of Hastings, has been elected president and Mr C. C. Holland, of Christchurch, vice-presi-dent of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. Mr Brown is Mayor of Hastings.—(P.A.) The Government representatives on the Board of Governors of Postprimary School Boards for Christchurch will be Mrs A. M. Barnes and Mr W. J. Cartwright, both of Christchurch. Mr Cartwright is headmaster of the Normal School, Christchurch.— (P.A.) An appreciation of the work done for the Canterbury Museum by the late Mr E. F. Stead was recorded in the minutes of the Museum Trust Board at its meeting yesterday. The board carried a motion expressing its sympathy with Mr Stead’s relatives. The Dominion president of Federated Farmers (Mr W. N. Perry) the Dominion secretary (Mr A. P. O’Shea), and the chief organiser for New Zealand (Mr G. Dawson) will visit Timaru on March 15 to address a public meeting on the course of a New Zealand tour, according to advice received "by the secretary of the South Canterbury Executive (Mr A. B. Struthers). Mr Elgar Clayton, at present conductor of the Fairey Aviation Works’ Band in England, has accepted an appointment as conductor of the Invercargill Civic Band.—(P.A.) Mr J. L. Hay, chairman of the Canterbury Museum Trust Board, was granted leave of absence for seven months by the board yesterday. Mr ‘Hay will leave soon for a trip to Great Britain. Mr- W. S. Mac Gibbon was appointed acting-chairman. Dr. Charles Morkane, visiting anaesthetist at the Christchurch Hospital, has been granted 12 months’ leave for post-graduate training overseas. Mr O. L. Wrigley, of Wellington, has been appointed secretary of the Wellington Rugby Union, in succession to Mr A. E, Neilson, who has resigned. —(P.AJ
