GARDEN PARTY
900 GUESTS MEET AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. February 24. The first garden party at Government House since 1947 was held today. There were dull grey skies, a cold wind, and light rain, and the 900 guests divided their time between the lawns and indoors. Afternoon tea, ices, and cool drinks were served from tables in marquees set up on the lawn. Members of the First Wellington Regimental Band, who wore full ceremonial dress, played popular music on the terrace. Lady Freyberg wore a patterned silk frock of slate blue and brown, with a wide-brimmed brown crinoline straw hat, trimmed on one side with light blue flowers. During afternoon tea. Sir Bernard and Lady Freyberg chatted with the guests on the lawn. Lady Freyberg wore a short slate blue cloth coat over her frock. In attendance were members of the Government House staff. Major tne Hon. Neville Wigram. Flight Lieutenant M. J. B. Cole. Lieutenant A. G. Tait. Mr D. E. Fouhy. and the following honorary aides-de-camp: Colonel H. E. Gilbert, Colonel R. A. Elliott. Wing Commander B. S. Nicholl, and Lieutenant Commander P. Williams. Miss Rosemary Eley, lady-in-waiting, was in attendance on Lady Freyberg.
