Fast Time for Hurdles.—Miss Shirley Strickland, of Australia, bettered the New Zealand women’s 80 metres hurdles record by 2-ssec at a special athletic meeting at McLean Park, Napier. She beat Colleen Newrick, Hastings, by two yards to win in 11.6 sec, but the breeze was just too strong for the time to be recognised as a new record. Miss Strickland won the 100 yards in ll.lSec. one-tenth of a second outside the national record, and the 220 yards in 25.8 sec, one-fifth of a sec? ond outside the record.—(P-A.)
