BOWLS
VETERAN PLAYERS HONOURED
LONG ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE
Three retiring Christchurch bowlers, all of whom have had long experience with bowling administration in New Zealand, were entertained at a valedictory social last evening by the Christchurch Bowling Centre. They are Messrs A. J. Dickson, W. Efford, and H. B. Oakey. Mr Dickson started playing bowls 55 years ago, and 50 years ago last month took part in the final of the New Zealand championship. He is a past president of the Dominion council and of the Christchurch centre, and for the last 20 years has been treasurer of the Christchurch centre.
Both Mr Efford and Mr Oakey have had more than 30 years’ experience with bowls, and both were for many years members of the Dominion council.
Mr Oakey was secretary to the Christchurch centre for 22 years and is a past president of the Dominion council. Mr Efford has been treasurer to the Dominion council and was chairman of the bowl-testing committee for many years. More than 150 bowlers were present at the social last evening. Among them were Mr M. Walsh, president of the Dominion council; Mr W. Mathison, Auckland representative on the Dominion council: and Messrs J. R. Smith and R. H. Taylor and Dr. W. S. Seed, all Christchurch representatives on the council.
